After getting better response globally for its last smartphone Z3, BlackBerry is all set to start selling a new one, named BlackBerry Leap.
As expected, the device is up for pre-order in UK at the moment while BlackBerry also confirms the availability of the device in Germany, US, Canada, France, UAE, India, and Saudi Arabia, very soon.
The device is powered by BlackBerry 10.3.1 OS, which is the powerful version of the OS so far and it also features a lot of productive tools, as we can expect from BlackBerry.
BlackBerry Leap specifications
To start with, it features 5inch LCD display with HD resolution (720×1280 pixels) with a density of 294ppi. It supports 16:9 aspect ratio so watching video content will be a good experience.
Qualcomm 8960 dual-core 1.5GHz processor is at the heart along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB eMMC flash storage (internal). A slot for hot swappable microSD card is also there, supporting up to 128GB size.
Coming at the camera, 8MP is at rear and 2MP is at the front. This is the configuration while rear camera has features like Flash, video image stabilization, touch focus, autofocus and full HD video recording at 30fps. The selfie camera features fixed focus and is capable of recording HD standard of videos.
LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth (4.0), and FM Radio are all in there along with accelerometer and proximity sensors. The whole package is powered by a non-removable 2800mAh battery.
That was all about specifications, but this device holds onto a pretty powerful software as well.
The BlackBerry 10.3.1 possesses different encryption and security algorithms inbuilt that are good enough to keep user data intact. A virtual, voice activated assistant is also there, just like Siri and Cortana.
Surely, it misses out the traditional physical keyboard but not to forget, BlackBerry Virtual Keyboard is pretty good in delivering a standard typing experience.
At last, for business persons, the Leap will come pre-loaded with BlackBerry Blend that can allow one to manage a lot of things (like accessing content or sending messages) right from the computer or even a tablet.

BlackBerry Leap Price
If you’re interested in buying this smartphone, and live in UK, then you can pre-order it here for the price of just £199.
I’m sure of the fact that the device will be welcomed in other countries as well. But in India, its success depends on the pricing as we already have dozens of options to choose between, in this price range. Although, BlackBerry Z3 was firmly welcomed.
Do let me know the feature of BlackBerry Leap smartphone that impressed you.
