HTC has announced the new Phablet smartphone named Butterfly S which is the successor of Butterfly smartphone launched last year. HTC has not increased the display size of the Butterfly but increased the resolution to full HD from just HD and the pixel density has also been improved.
HTC hasn’t changed the design though but still the device is different from first Butterfly as it holds new operating system which customers have already tasted with HTC One.
The loudspeaker has moved from back to the front below the touch sensitive controls. There is already one speaker at the top on front side so now there are two speakers surrounding the display in Butterfly S.
HTC Butterfly S is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset featuring quad core processor and has 1.9GHz of clock speed. There is Adreno 320 GPU as well inside to cope up with the graphics requirements of HD games and videos.
We’ve already seen the processing speed of this processor and no doubt it’s holding the crown of fastest smartphone processor. It features 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage inside. Butterfly S also got storage expansion slot supporting microSD card of maximum 64GB. Dropbox is also offering free 25GB of storage for two years.
HTC has added the 4MP UltraPixel camera in the Butterfly S which was first announced with HTC One. The rear camera is supported by LED flash and got 1/3” sensor. It features face detection, smile detection, simultaneously HD video and image recording and is capable of recording full HD quality videos. There is secondary camera as well having 2.1MP sensor.
The smartphone is having Android Jelly Bean 4.2 as OS and on top of which HTC Sense UI 5 has been added. The OS is up to date till now but very soon Jelly Bean 4.3 will be there. The OS also got HTC Zoe, Video highlights and HTC share apps.
Data Connectivity Features
The Butterfly S doesn’t feature LTE cellular and users need to satisfy with 3G HSDPA cellular data speed. It features dual band Wi-Fi along with Bluetooth and NFC. The Wi-Fi additional features like Direct, DLNA and hotspot are also there in the device. The device got only one port i.e. microUSB port for charging and USB data connectivity.
The Butterfly S has GPS with A-GPS support and supports HTML5 browser. There are accelerometer, gyro, compass and proximity sensors inside to sense well.
The speakers are supported by built in amplifier and the device also features Beats audio sound enhancement. This means the audio quality and level both are going to be better than any other smartphone yet.
Battery life is going to be a question but I think the device is going to make one day easily with mixed multimedia usage as it runs Jelly Bean 4.2 and also got 3200mAh powerful battery.
HTC Butterfly S Price
HTC is going to fix the price tag of Butterfly S around $766 (according to sources) and its going to arrive the stores in July.
