LG will announce the LG G5 in India, formally on June 1st. The media invites have come in and you can expect the device to be priced in the region of Rs 50,000. We have already seen a ton of offline retailers as well as e-com players such as Flipkart taking pre-orders for the smartphone, with a listed price of Rs 52,990 for the 32GB variant of the phone. Not just this, as an initial offer, you will be getting the ‘Cam Plus’, which is one of the modular add-on or ‘Friend’ as LG likes to call it, absolutely free of cost. The camera module if purchased separately would cost in the region of Rs 6,500.
The LG G5 is the first smartphone that endorses modularity as you can simply eject the battery pack and replace it with modules that you want to. So far, only a handful of these modules are available but LG is betting big on the smartphone and hoping that the charm of making your smartphone truly a personal experience will see users come back to LG, which did not really see the last flagship, LG G4 reach the heights of the G2 or the G3. The phone packs everything you could expect from a modern day flagship including a fingerprint scanner, USB Type C, support for LTE and a metallic body
On the specifications front, the LG G5 was one of the first smartphones to be announced with Snapdragon 820, the flagship chipset from Qualcomm. It comes with a 5.3-inch QuadHD display with 4GB of RAM and internal memory of 32GB. The rear camera is 16MP + 8MP in a dual camera setup while the front-facing snapper is 8MP here. There is a Micro SD card slot to help you expand the storage in here too and the display comes with an Always-On feature. The battery on the device is 2800 mAh, which, given that the phone runs on Android Marshmallow should get you through the day thanks to Doze. The LG G5 will be available in three colors: Titan, Silver and Golden.
