Earlier this month, Oppo India announced that the R5 smartphone that is the slimmest device launched by the firm with a thickness of mere 4.85 mm will be let out in the country sometime this month. However, Oppo did not confirm on when the R5 will be launched or what its exact pricing will be.
Today, the Oppo R5 has been launched in India for a pricing of Rs 29,990 and it is announced that the device will be let out on pre-orders starting from January 1, 2015. The handset was unveiled in late October for a pricing of $499 along with the firm’s flagship smartphone Oppo N3. The handset boasts of metallic and ceramic finish at its corners adding to its aesthetics.
When it comes to technical specifications, the Oppo R5 is given a 5.2 inch AMOLED display with a Full HD screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels that translates to a pixel density of 423 pixels per inch. The handset gets energized by a 64 bit octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor that clubs a 2.1 GHz quad core processor and a 1.5 GHz quad core processor. This chipset is aided by 2 GB of RAM and Adreno 405 graphic engine. Also, there is 16 GB of non-expandable internal storage space onboard.
For imaging, the Oppo offering arrives with a 13 MP rear camera with Sony IMX214 sensor teamed up with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. At the front, the R5 uses a 5 MP selfie camera. It runs on the customized ColorOS 2.0.1 based on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.
Powering the Oppo R5 is a 2,000 mAh battery that is accopmpanied by VOOC charging technology that will charge the battery from 0 to 75 percent in just 30 minutes. Connectivity aspects of the slim smartphone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and micro USB. Notably, the R5 will be finding a tough challenge with the Vivo X5 Max smartphone that is even thinner at 4.75 mm and priced at Rs 32,980 in the country.
