These days, mobile phones are an integral part of our lives and we hardly find any one without one. But, as it is pretty tough for the senior generation to use one, the manufactures are racing towards launching senior friendly handsets with large fonts, SOS function of emergency and more in order to make them accessible and comfortable for the elder users.
Firstly, the Philips Xenium X2566 is a feature phone that features a 2.4 inch display with HVGA resolution of 320×480 pixels. The handset boasts of a VGA primary camera, Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity and a 1,630 mAh battery that is rated to provide up to 24 hours of talk time and 1128 hours of standby time respectively.
Other than these aspects, the phone arrives with a powerful loudspeaker, dual SIM functionality, large buttons and big font, digital text magnifier and wireless FM Radio. While the magnifier is a unique feature and it will allow users to magnify letters, there is a powerful flashlight that can be used even when the Xenium X2556 is switched off. Philips has priced the senior friendly Xenium X2566 at Rs 3,800 and it is available across the country.
Coming to the other device, it is a smartphone from Mitashi dubbed PLAY Senior Friend. The smartphone is based on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and it is fitted with a 4 inch IPS display of unspecified screen resolution. The handset is stuffed with a dual-core processor ticking at 1 GHz clock speed that is paired with 512 MB of RAM under its hood.
The internal storage capacity of the Mitashi PLAY Senior Friend is a mere 4 GB, but it can be expanded externally using a micro SD card. Interestingly, the smartphone comes in a see through box that is unique to let the users see the design of the phone before buying one. It is claimed to arrive with dual camera support, though we do not have any clues regarding the resolution of the snappers.
This smartphone comes with large dialer, big fonts for storing contacts and reading messages, SOS button for emergency, coded icons and FM Radio. Mistashi has priced the PLAY Senior Friend at Rs 4,999 that makes it reasonable.
