Since the last year, rumors regarding the first Tizen based smartphone that Samsung is prepping are flowing all over the tech media world. It was in June that this smartphone was announced and its moniker was revealed as Samsung Z. Unfortunately, the handset was cancelled by the South Korean tech giant.
Now, the recent reports circulating across the tech world suggest that the first Samsung Tizen based smartphone will be entering the Indian market in November this year. But, there is no confirmation to say if it will be the Samsung Z or some other smartphone. However, it is pretty known that Samsung would be launching the budget friendly models in Indian when this lineup arrives in November.
To be more precise, it is believed that the South Korean tech firm will be launching either the Samsung SM-Z130E or the SM-Z130H in the country later this year. These variants cost around $200 (approx. Rs 12,162) for the unlocked versions, whereas the Samsung Z is a high-end smartphone with premium specifications and it would arrive with a hefty price tag for sure.
Samsung hopes to improve Tizen into contention through its Club Samsung 2.0 service that will provide localized music, videos and TV shows. Tarun Malik, director of Samsung’s MediaSolutionsCenter for Southwest Asia and his team will be incharge of promoting Tizen in India. It is expected that Samsung’s alternate OS offering will be able to contend with already established media streaming services such as Airtel Wynk and Vodafone Music Store.
Though there is a speculation of the budget smartphones based on Tizen that could make their way into the Indian market, the specifications of the upcoming models remain unknown. Consequently, it is not clear of this smartphone will be a tough challenger for the Android smartphones that exist in the market. But, we can expect more info to surface on Samsung’s Tizen offerings in the coming months.
