This is not just about the Micromax Canvas Spark, but all about the price tag battle, which is making the path for manufacturers hard and on the same way, easier for us to buy better phones in lesser price.
So, a brief history is advisable to read. You can skip it and jump directly into the section covering your current beloved phone. Not fallen in love with it yet? I’m sure you will, soon!
In 2012, there were no smartphones in the price of 5k, in 2013, there were few which were always eager to deliver bad experience, but they had our Facebook and emails, in 2014, things started to get better, and now in 2015, you can easily buy a device that is equally eager to deliver a good experience, which wasn’t possible earlier.
This is how I welcomed 2015 and in the second quarter of the year, we already have few phones to get excited about. If we forget about Sony Xperia Z4 that was announced in Japan, and how bad the camera of HTC One M9 is, then we will be having an all new premium builds Samsung Galaxy S6, its fancy brother S6 edge, and the newly announced LG G4.
These are the smartphones which drive the mainstream, but that doesn’t mean that small streams don’t play their role. There are still billions of people waiting to buy their first smartphone to get connected to internet and join us on Twitter or even Facebook.
And, for those users, smartphones like Moto E, Moto G, Xiaomi Redmi, and few more from Asus, Lenovo and other Chinese brands, are really helpful and much-needed.
These ultra-affordable smartphones need to be improved and they can easily turn into profits for any manufacturer unit. And, it all started with the release of Android KitKat 4.4 OS. This was Google’s attempt to make the Android OS run on low-end hardware.
The successor, Lollipop 5.x was also developed keeping the same thing in mind, and so we had Motorola Moto E (2015), Moto G (2015), and Xiaomi Redmi 2. But, they all starts at a price tag of 7k INR.
The devices are still in the category of ultra-affordable but there is still a gap needs to be covered which is marginally below the 7k price tag. And, that’s how Micromax saw the window.
In the starting, Micromax Mobile was one of the prime Indian brands, and it did find good success in competing with Samsung smartphones which were available in this low price range.
But later with the entrance of first Motorola and then Xiaomi hurt the brand’s sales graph badly and it was no longer the major player in the country.
Moto E and Moto G were a huge success and so does the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. In fact, Xiaomi was so thrilled that it even started its smartphone production focusing primarily on the Indian market, result, we have an all new Xiaomi Mi 4i.
I can go on similarly with Asus, Lenovo, and many other Chinese makers which are right now focusing on the Indian market, either through their Live Flash Sales or by covering events across the country.
But, let’s just come back to the Micromax Mobile. Our favourite Indian Brand!
Supporting ‘Make In India’
We all have witnessed a political change (a lot of us also know it as ‘Modi Wave’), and also aware of our Prime Minister’s program of ‘Make In India’.
As an Indian, we need to and we should support this initiative by our Indian government and so should buy and start loving more Indian brands.
And, just to update you (if you are new), Micromax Mobile is an Indian brand, Yes, an Indian Company, founded in 2000.
If we are offered a good quality product by an Indian brand then we should go for it. That’s the conclusion of the story, now, I can write that you should by the all new Micromax Canvas Spark.
Why Should I buy Canvas Spark?
This was the phone that was first heavily teased and then announced on April 21. Online registration were open till yesterday, and at 12:00 noon, Today, the phone was available to buy for all those were eligible after registration.
Everyone seems to be surprised that 20,000 units of the device were sold in just 2 minutes. Yes, it was surprising for everyone, but every tech geek like me, was aware of this, already.
Now, let’s begin with the prime reason why this device is so good and why you all should buy it if your budget doesn’t allow to invest more than 5k INR.
Android Lollipop Experience
It happens every time when a newer version of Android rolls out, that all previous models are going to receive it or not. But, this isn’t going to be the case with Canvas Spark as at least for 2015, it is going to be updated with latest version of Android OS.
Even the touch capacitive buttons below the display are of Lollipop OS theme, which is further going to make the device look different.
To ensure that OS is running smoothly, a quad-core processor is added inside which is clocked at 1.3GHz, along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
The main reason why devices of this price range weren’t running good enough was lower RAM, internal storage and either single-core or dual-core processor. But, that’s not the case with Canvas Spark.
So, you can expect it to run smoothly, and even play light games without facing any issues.
Build and Display
Micromax managed to build the device with a neat, simple and kind of elegant design. From any angle, you won’t find it ‘that’ cheap which is common in the price group. In short, you’re paying for a device with a decent standard of build.
Other than build, next thing comes is the display. It has 4.7inch measuring screen that is added n IPS LCD panel. Now, this panel is known for its good viewing angles and better color production, good standard brightness, and, above all, low power consumption.
So, together, the device holds a good, bright display and impressive design. It also measures just 8.5mm in thickness while weighing just 134 grams.
In short, comfortable to hold.
Camera
As the Ravish Kumar of NDTV call it many times “Selfie is national disease”, chances are high that you are also having related symptoms. There is no shame in admitting that. You should be staying updated with the rest of the world.
Micromax has taken care of that Selfie need in this device too, even when it was meant to be available with such low price tag. You can take hundreds of selfies with its 2MP front facing camera. Now, pictures will be good enough for social platforms, and you shouldn’t be complaining for the quality. As this is the best you can get here, at least, for the moment.
A 8MP camera is also at the back with LED flash and autofocus. It is capable of recording HD standard of videos and I am pretty sure you will be satisfied with its work.
Rest of the goodies
Now, to make a device with all those goodies, properly functional and useful in this internet age, you need to have 3G connectivity, at least. And, luckily Canvas Spark has that, along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and FM Radio (I still listen to 100.3FM and I’m sure many of us do that).
Accelerometer and proximity sensors are there inside along with HTML5 compatible browser (Google Chrome), microSD card slot and two slots for dual SIM cards.
To run the show, 2,000mAh battery is packed inside the device and you can even choose between White/Gold and Grey/Silver color options, which are any day better than normal white and black.
Conclusion
With all that said, I’m pretty sure you have started gaining a sense of love for the all new Micromax Canvas Spark. If you missed out today’s flash sale, then you should be ready for the next one. Register now on the snapdeal.com and seal your chance for the next sale.
I’m pretty confident that Micromax is going to make this device available in offline market, but after making 2-3 flash sales through internet.
