The smartphone industry has slowly started accepting fingerprint sensors in their smartphones as the way forward. The latest manufacturer to join the bandwagon is Sony and two smartphones have leaked recently. While Apple and Samsung have been selling flagships with fingerprint sensors, its the first time the Japanese giant has taken a step in this direction. Are these handsets the Xperia Z5 and the Xperia Z5 Compact?
These leaks were posted by @vizileaks on Twitter which displays three devices which are waiting to register fingerprints. The device in the center looks like the Apple iPhone 6 which has one of the best fingerprint sensors in the industry. The device is flanked by what looks like a Xperia Compact device and possibly the Xperia Z5.
The leak ahead on Sony’s IFA conference keeps the possibility of them launching these phones at the event. The naming of the handsets cannot be determined knowing that Sony their latest flagship as the Xperia Z3+ everywhere else but is sold as the Sony Xperia Z4 in Japan. The Xperia Z series have been known for the 20 megapixel camera and their waterproof build.
Sony has ditched the round power button that they had on all their devices since 2013 and in is the new oval button with the Fingerprint sensor. The position is unique as no other manufacturer has put a sensor on the side of the phone, it has always been on the front or at the back. Earlier the Xperia Z4 was rumored to come with the fingerprint sensor in the power button but Sony decided to go without it. The camera shutter button stays where it used to while it looks like Sony has moved the volume rocker further down. Looking at Sony’s decision to join the others and get fingerprint sensors, it’ll be interesting to see how if they manages to boost sales for them.
