Bluetooth is one popular technology used for file transferring among mobile devices since years which is now being replaced by NFC. Both these technologies need extra hardware in your mobile device otherwise they can’t provide you their services.
But there is one app which is hardware independent and can still transfer files from one device to another. The app was available for only iOS devices but recently it has been made available for Android as well. The app is named Chirp and it’s available at GooglePlay store for free.
Requirements
As every technology requires some hardware and software part while Chirp requires following,
- Your device should have at least a dual-core processor. It means Chirp won’t work on device having single core processor.
- Both devices should have Chirp app installed.
How Chirp works?
For user’s point of view, whenever you want to send a file then you just press the Chirp button for a particular file and it gets converted into sound.
The audio lengths for 2 seconds and now the second device with which you want to share file needs to hear that sound.
Once the second device does that then file gets downloaded. This is the simple concept of Chirp and you’ll feel like your files are transferred by the means of sound.
But actually the app isn’t transferring file via sound rather it uses different method. When user starts the file sharing then Chirp uploads that file to its server and creates an audio code for the webpage link.
Now at other end, device listens to the audio, decode it and download file from the link mentioned in the audio.
That’s the actual process but who cares about it? When I used this app then it was exciting to transfer file via sound.
How to share file on Android device via Chirp

- Start the app.
- Click ‘+’ button and add file that you want to share.
- Now click on yellow colored ‘Chirp’ button just below the file and it will start converting into audio of 2 seconds.
- Get your second device near and make it listen to the audio being broadcast by the first device.
That’s it! You’ll find file being delivered to the second device.
That’s it! Start sharing via Sound
It’s time to make your beloved Android smartphone chirp like bird and using that you can share files too. Let me know your experience with the app via comments.
