Moto X was made official on the first day of this month and now it’s available at the AT&T store near you. Moto X runs on Android OS which offers lots of customization features but Moto X itself comes with some hardware customization features.
The main soul of Motorola’s new Android smartphone i.e. the Moto X is that it allows users to customize the hardware which makes it as the first hardware customizable smartphone.
Motorola has developed one tool using which users can design or select hardware for their Moto X before actually buying it. The Moto X is now available with AT&T for just $199.99 for two years contract and in near future Motorola will bring out Moto X with more carriers.
Guide on How to design Moto X smartphone using Moto Maker
As Moto X is a new smartphone and so it’s designing tool, the Moto Maker is also new. Although Google has made the tool very simple and easier to use yet users will look for some guide and here I’m with that simplest step by step guide on how to design Moto X smartphone using Moto Maker.
Getting started
Open up your browser and go to Moto Maker official home page. You’ll see the first page asking for some Moto X card.
Before start using Moto Maker you can visit your nearest AT&T store and choose a Moto X and sign the contract. In return you’ll be given a Moto X card which you can use on Moto Maker to further customize your Moto X before it ships to your home.
Alternatively if you don’t want to first visit AT&T store then you can click on “Play with Moto Maker” button to design your first Moto X which you can buy later when it’s available on sale online. I’m moving with this option.
You’ll get access to Moto Maker after choosing any of the options and then you need to click on Get Started button which is there at the bottom right corner.
Choosing Back Color
The very first thing you need to choose is the back color of your Moto X. You can choose among Cool, Neutral and Warm color options which consist of following colors.
- Cool > Navy, Turquoise, Olive, Mint, Royal Blue and Spearmint.
- Neutral > Woven Black, Woven White, Cement, Black and Chalk.
- Warm > Cherry, Lemon Lime, Violet, Crimson, Blush, Raspberry and Cabernet.
So you can choose one among 18 different color options available. I selected Olive color.
Front Color Selection
Motorola is offering two color options on front, Black and White and I think these two are enough to match with all back color options.
I’ve selected White color for mine as it was looking perfect with the back Olive color.
Accent colors
You can choose Accent colors in which the volume rocker, power button and ring on the rear camera will be painted. Total seven different metallic color options are available there as following,
Accent color options are Blue, Silver, Yellow, Red, Purple, Black and Orange. I selected Yellow one for my device.
Buying Case
You can buy case for your Moto X. You’ve to pay for this case separately. In starting, buying the case from Moto Maker will be a good option as you won’t find in your local market.
Features
Coming to the Features part now,
Memory – The Moto X will come with 16GB of storage but you can get 32GB by paying for additional $50. Device doesn’t have expandable storage option so a 32GB will be a good deal if you keep lots of stuff in your smartphone. Google will also provide you extra 50GB of free storage on Google Drive for 2 years.
Power On – You can write any message which will pop up every time your device gets started. It’s a kind of Hello message or whatever you choose.
Wallpaper – You can choose the wallpaper which will be there in your device when you start it on. You can choose among 20 different high resolution wallpapers.
Google Sync – Every Android device needs is sync with Google account and you can do it right here using the Moto Maker so when you get your device you’ll get it already done.
Accessories
Moto X comes with wall charger and ear headphones and the best part is that you can choose their colors too which matches exactly with color of your device (great, right?).
Wall charger is available in black and white color while you can choose the ear headphone color among 16 different color options. Wall charger will come for free while you’ve to pay $39.95 separately for ear headphones.
Moto Maker intelligently chose the best color option as per your device color. I got mine selected automatically to Olive but you can still change it to any other.
You’re Done!
Now you’re done designing Moto X smartphone using Moto Maker. You can either e-mail design or can put the order if you already got the contract signed with AT&T.
I really enjoyed designing my smartphone according to my storage need and color combinations I like. I must say it’s a great tool by Motorola and it will definitely help Moto X.
