Gionee has announced a new device in New Delhi today which they are claiming to be the world’s slimmest one measuring 6.85mm thickness. Well they should have read some international news before announcing this claim as Huawei has already launched world’s slimmest smartphone, Ascend P6 which measures just 6.2 mm in thickness.
So their first and main claim goes down but that doesn’t mean their device doesn’t have the qualification to remain in the market. They have packed some latest standard features in the device with a competitive price tag and this combo is good to attract customers. Rest depends on the executive, how he drives customers to buy this world’s “not” slimmest smartphone.
Gionee Elife E5 Specs
Let see the specifications of the Gionee Elife E5 now. Yes, Elife E5 is what they call their new device.
I haven’t seen the device in reality as its just announced so will take few weeks to arrive shops but as per the official press release images are concerned the device look to have a standard box like design (which Sony smartphones use to have).
Three capacitive buttons at front with a camera, a sensor and back got camera with LED flash and loudspeaker. The right hand side got the microUSB port while the volume rockers are the left side. The loudspeaker is said to feature 3D surround system i.e. Digital Theatre System (DTS) technology.
Display
The Gionee Elife E5 got a Super AMOLED panel to start off on which 4.8 inch display with resolution of 1280×720 pixels has been added. The resolutions say that the display is HD but let see how device deals with the HD quality videos in reality. The officials also said that the display got 3.6 ppi pixel density which is a pretty good number for a budget smartphone. Device also supports multi touch.
CPU/Processor
The CPU is off course a quad core as this processor is what people looking for these days. The quad core processors is clocked at 1.5GHz which is better than all other budget smartphones as most of the other smartphone I’ve came through are clocked at 1.2GHz only.
The in-built RAM seems to be about 1GB along with 16GB of internal storage. There is off course an expandable card slot. As far as storage department is concerned the E5 will have impressive performance.
OS
It runs the latest available version of Android i.e. 4.2 Jelly Bean. Now this seems to be the key part of the device as running Android 4.2 brings lots of latest Google features to the device which was not there in the previous versions. Also the performance and battery life is remarkable with this version of the OS.
Camera
The camera at the back is 8MP powered by BSI sensor while the front camera got a 5MP shooter. There have been one more device launched recently having 5MP front camera i.e Karbonn Titanium S9.
Both the camera are said to be capable of recording full HD videos but this may trouble the display as its set to only HD resolution. The rear camera is packed with extra features like smile detection, face detection, skin tone enhancer, gesture recognition, touch focus and yes its autofocus.
Data
The device will support 3G cellular network and dual SIM card support is also there. There will be Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB port.
Battery
Battery added inside is 2000mAh which seems to be good enough as the Android 4.2 will help the device to get impressive battery life.
Gionee ELife E5 Price
The Gionee Elife E5 would be available at an estimated price of Rs 19,999 as per the official press release but I’m sure they will decrease the price down soon as there are lot of smartphones with similar specs and features at low price than Gionee ELife E5 E5.
Looks like all emerging smartphone have lost their minds in case of price. First Micromax, then Karbonn and now this…… Do these guys expect users to buy this box piece at 20k?
wow 😮 it looks awesome but out of my budget :/
The model is going to give a tough competition to big fishes. The features and price of this device is superb. Lets see how the market reacts to this in the coming weeks.
Slimmest Android phone! Design and features looks promising but I doubt about battery life.
