Is your Privacy Protected When Using Smartphone Apps

June 30, 2015 by sarvesh

Privacy is under constant threat in this digital world. Mobile apps are not created to meet the needs of users when the security is under threat. So, developers need to ensure that the privacy is protected.

Most of recent smartphone apps share your profile and other info right away with your social network profiles without permission. You need to be extra cautious, otherwise you are broadcasting your info to unsafe online corridors. Mobile users, thankfully are becoming very careful about the apps they use. Most of the times, at least 50% of the users do not use apps which they have learned that the app would broadcast info and lead to a breach of privacy.

Is your Privacy Protected

Most have uninstalled such apps too. There are different ways to safeguard your privacy, and here are they.

  • Do not share apps- disable the permissions

When you are asked to share a few information by the app, do not think that it can be genuine for it asks permission. You don’t have to share any info to use any app, and you can immediately opt out. When you think that the app is safe, and you lose nothing by sharing, check what gets shared.

  • Do not go for shady apps:

Downloading the app that comes from an unknown source is just inviting the problems. You can find the apps and the source by reading the user reviews. Even the popular apps can cause troubles to a certain phones and tablets. Ever believe that? But, it is true!

  • Online Privacy Software

You can find lots of online privacy software offering the security that you look for your device. This software know if the information is shared online and also do remove them if they are shared online.

  • Turn Off Geotagging

Disable geotagging on Facebook as it will tell your location. When you are out of the city for a month, and vacationing in Hawaii, and want to keep it a secret, for the house can play host to the burglars. If your friend has tagged you in the Facebook photo at a particular place, anybody can see it, and you lose not only digital privacy but money and asset too.

  • Strong passwords are easy ways to create security

If you want an easy way to protect your safety, then creating a password that is complex and cannot be detected is the best thing to do. Lock your device with a strong password so that you need not get worried at least about the information stored in the phone. Keeping a backup of all data is far more useful.

  • Look for Privacy Policy

When you want to download an app, understand that it should offer you info on how the app makes use of it. It is true that an efficient antivirus program for Android or iOS is crucial to protecting the information and privacy of your smartphone, but you also need to read the privacy and information screen of every app.

For instance, you download a game, and the game shares your scores and when you played it to the Facebook friends. Think, you had stayed home because you did not feel like going to the office, and given a suitable reason too. But what happens when your colleagues or your boss happens to see that you have been playing Farmville or Candy Crush? That makes the day for you. This is a simple scenario and you can imagine even the worse with the apps. So, it is always better to read the privacy policy of the apps you are downloading and installing on your devices.
