Jivi Mobiles has unveiled the cheapest Android smartphone in India dubbed Jivi JSP 20 carrying an ultra affordable price tag of Rs 1,999. The firm appears to be targeting the feature phone users who are worried with the pricing of the smartphones.
The company claims in the official statement that the handset complies with the Prime Minister’s digital India vision. This is a noble initiative taken by the firm and we hope many other manufacturers will target this price point. However, the handset comes with not so impressive specifications and this is a downside.
The Jivi JSP 20 is fitted with a 3.5 inch OGS display that has a low screen resolution of 320×480 pixels and employs a 1 GHz single-core processor that is assisted with an insufficient 128 MB RAM. Fueled by the outdated Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system, the Jivi smartphone packs a mere 256 MB of storage capacity that can be expanded up to 32 GB using a micro SD card. There is a 2 MP primary camera at its back teamed up with LED flash, but it lacks a front-facing selfie camera.
Connectivity features onboard the device include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2G and dual SIM functionality and misses out on 3G for faster connectivity on the go. Keeping things juiced up is a 1,350 mAh battery that should provide a good backup of up to 7.5 hours of media usage.
There is support for six languages for texting and the list has English, French, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Urdu. It is preloaded with WhatsApp, YouTube and Facebook and of course users can download more applications, but the functionality of these apps on the basic handset remains unknown as there could be performance issues.
The Jivi JSP 20 smartphone is available exclusively via online retailer Amazon India for Rs 1,999. The pre-order of the smartphone starts from today till September 24 and the shipping will debut from September 25. As a launch offer, the retailer is providing a free flip cover worth Rs 499 along with the smartphone for a week.
