Micromax Yureka Smartphone with Cyanogen OS Launched for Rs 8,999, Shipping Debuts in January

Micromax unveiled its Yu brand of Cyanogen OS based smartphones and the first device in its class called Yureka. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 8,999 and registrations for the same will be available via Amazon from Friday, while it will debut shipping from the second week of January. The early users who register for the same will receive a free leather back cover worth Rs 999. Notably, the company will be providing free replacement or repair right at the doorstep of the users.

The Yureka smartphone with the model number AO5510 run on a custom build of Cyanogen OS with numerous features on top of stock Android. The device is a dual SIM smartphone with one supporting 4G and the other supporting 3G. The Yureka is bestowed with a 5.5 inch HD 720×1280 pixel IPS display with a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Powering the Yureka smartphone is a 64 bit 1.5 GHz octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC teamed up with Adreno 405 graphics engine and 2 GB of RAM respectively. This chipset comes with two quad core Cortex A53 quad core processors to render a decent performance. The device comes with a 13 MP Sony Exmor CMOS sensor rear camera with auto focus, LED flash, f/2.2 aperture and 5P Lens. A front-facing 5 MP fixed focus camera with wide angle 4P Lens handles the selfies and video conferencing.

The Yureka bundles 16 GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable via micro SD card up to 32 GB and is given a 2,500 mAh battery rated to pump a standby time up to 310 hours, video playback time of up to six hours and continuous gaming up to 4 hours respectively. The Yu smartphone is packed with connectivity aspects including Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS and a series of sensors.

The Cyanogen OS 11 build is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat and Micromax has assured to rollout out the Android 5.0 Lollipop based build. Cyanogen has stressed that the users can modify icons, fonts, boot screen animation, taps, and more via the Themes app. While there will be two free custom Yu themes at the time of launch, more will be made available soon. Other than customization features, Cyanogen claimed that users can edit and customise permissions for each app and there are protection related features such as Find & Wipe device, device encryption, Pin Scramble, Blacklist for spam callers and a Protected Apps section.
