14 months ago, Google bought Motorola due to the patents Motorola was having and now both these known brands have announced their first smartphone. You’re thinking right, this is the Moto X. After a lot of rumors, now Moto X is official.
Must Read – How To Design Moto X Smartphone Using Moto Maker – Step by Step Guide
After looking at the Moto X, one thing is clear now that this is what the level of quality comes out when Google enters into the manufacturing of a product. Nexus smartphones have also been under Google name but Google didn’t manufacture them and this is how Moto X becomes the first smartphone manufactured by the Google.
Moto X started with a patriotic theme that the device is manufactured in the US only and it’s officially announced now. Motorola setup a factory to manufacture and maintain Moto X in the US only because of one unique concept of the device.
The unique concept of which I was talking above is that users can design their own Moto X and it will ship to their residence within 4 days. Now to achieve this 4 days availability, Motorola has to plant the factory in US only.
Moto X Specifications
Let see what are the specifications of Moto X but don’t expect a too heavy smartphone similar to Galaxy S4 or HTC One.
Moto X weighs only 130 grams and it measures 65.3mm in width, 129.3mm in height and 5.6-10.4 mm in thickness. Yes it’s curved a little bit and this makes holding comfortable.
Moto X runs on Motorola X8 chipset which isn’t a powerful chip rather a chip ensuring decent performance and importantly great battery life. It packs 2GB of RAM and will be available in 16 and 32GB internal storage options. Google is also providing free 50GB storage on Google Drive for 2 years.
The panel used for display is AMOLED on which 4.7 inch display has been added with 720p resolution. In the era of full HD resolution display, Motorola wanted to provide better battery life so they kept the resolution lower to 720p and I don’t think there is any bad in this decision.
LTE is there with two previous versions of cellular network. Bluetooth (4.0) and dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac are also there as additional wireless data connectivity features.
The rear camera got 10MP sensor with Clear Pixel technology and supported by LED flash. There is 2MP camera on front too and both the cameras are capable of recording full HD 1080p quality videos.
The operating system is almost a true Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but still there are few changes. Motorola wanted to keep the pure Android experience in the Moto X and till now it seems like they have succeeded. Google Now is deeply integrated into the Moto X and it can work on anything by voice instructions. It can even sense when you’re into a car and will shift automatically on to the car mode.
The best part to look on here is the battery life. Every Android user is searching for a decent battery life somehow and Moto X is offering approx 24 hours of battery life with mixed usage. This means the smartphone that can live for at least one day is now available.
The Customization in Moto X
Motorola is allowing users to change body of their Moto X according to their requirements. Users are even allowed to use Moto Maker tool to design their own unique Moto X which will be delivered to their home.
Users can choose color of front panel, back cover and the side buttons. The color of the ring near the camera can also be selected by the user.
This is how Motorola is making the concept of first user assembled smartphone and I think Motorola has really caught the sweet spot which users are going to like for sure.
If you don’t like the one which you chose and delivered to your home then you can ship it back within 2 weeks and get a newer one.
Moto X Price
Right now, Moto X is announced at a price of $199 with two year contract. When we compare the features to other high end smartphones like Galaxy S4, iPhone 5 and HTC One then we can get better smartphones as per specs are concerned in same $199 but still Moto X has got a lot of unique things which are looking really sharp.
User Friendly
So this is how Motorola wants to get back into the smartphone war but not by providing competing specs rather looking at solving user’s common problems and understanding their needs. In short, Motorola is going now in Google’s way of solving problems of users and getting popularity automatically.
Gorgeous phone. I can’t wait to order a customized unit for myself using the Moto Maker.
