Microsoft started the journey of the Office app for smartphones with the recent launch of Office app for iPhone. I already posted about the launching news and this times Microsoft has announced similar app for Android smartphones.
Earlier, the app wasn’t launched for the iPad and Microsoft continuous the same flow as the app announced today for Android doesn’t support any Android tablet.

As before > App isn’t free
Yes, the app isn’t available for free. It wasn’t free for the iPhone as well. Microsoft wants you to purchase the license for Office 365 software package which Microsoft announced at time of Windows 8 announcements.
You can purchase Office 365 one year subscription for 5 of your Windows PC or Mac. Then you can install the Office Mobile app on your Android smartphone and can use it by signing in with your Microsoft account.
This is how the app isn’t available for free. Also the app is compatible only with Android 4.0 and higher versions only. So the device running any previous versions will be disappointed.
The user interface of the Microsoft Office app for Android is almost identical to the one launched earlier for iPhone. It’s simple in look and easier to use.
Office Mobile for Office 365 – Again the basic app
The app works with cloud storage of Microsoft i.e. SkyDrive. All your documents stored over there can be accessed on your Android smartphone using this official office app now.
You can view and even edit the documents on the go using the app. The documents attached to your e-mails can also be viewed and edited.
The three tools, Word, Excel and PowerPoint are supported in the office app and you can make quick changes on the go before reaching the seminar hall.
As you read above that the app allows viewing and editing of documents stored on SkyDrive so you must be thinking that editing the documents will require continuous data connection.
But it’s not true!
You can edit documents while moving offline to any data connection but off course to download and update the documents you’ll need the data connection.
The app also allows putting comments on the three supported documents and while travelling if you think of creating a new document then the app won’t say no to you.
Download Microsoft Office for Android
Android users were searching for this term on internet but never found any official words. Now with the launch of this app, users can download Microsoft Office for Android but only for smartphones now.
You can get the Office Mobile for Office 365 from the official GooglePlay store and install it for free but to activate it you’ll need a valid Office 365 subscription.
To get Office 365 subscription head over to Microsoft Office official web page and choose a plan as per your needs.
Well.. it is informative 🙂
