June 16, 2015 by Aditya S

Oppo after launching its smartphone globally has now launched the Neo 5 (2015) in India. The device is priced at Rs. 9,990 and will be available to be purchased from Monday. Even though the company introduced the Oppo Neo 5s last week, it still hasn’t provided any details about its launch in India yet.

The Oppo Neo 5 features improved specifications compared to its last year’s original Neo 5. The device runs on Color OS 2.0.1i and is based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The phone along with this is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor and clubbed with Mali-400MP2 GPU.

The phone is a dual-SIM and standby features a 4.5-inch, 854 x 480 pixel, IPS display with a pixel density of 219 ppi. The phone has a Dragon Trail Glass protection, is a Dual SIM device and supports one Micro-Sim and another Nano-SIM.Neo 5

The phone in the camera front supports a 8 megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX179 BSI sensor with a f/2.2 aperture. The Neo 5 along with this sports a 2-megapixel front facing camera. The phone has made screenshot capturing easier with the option of the three finger swipe and screen-off gestures. The company has also provided Beautify 3.0 image editing mode, double exposure for overlapping two images and Pure Image 2.0+ image creation engine. The device features an in-built memory of 8GB which is expandable upto 32GB with the help of the microSD card.

Under the connectivity section, the Oppo Neo 5 includes 3G, Wi-fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPRS/EDGE, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB and Bluetooth. The phone has a 2000mAh non-removable battery which measures in at 131.9 x 65.5x 8mm and weighs around 135 grams.

For the given price there are phone like the Lenovo A7000 and the Lenovo A6000 Plus that offer better specifications around the same price. Other phones like the Redmi 2 and the Coolpad Dazen 1 also have better hardware and are cheaper than the Neo 5. It’ll be interesting to see how the new Oppo phone does in the market.
