Why I Don’t Like Android Smartphones? One Major Disadvantage

May 23, 2013 by sarvesh

You own an Android smartphone? If yes then you got to read this controversial stuff here.

Since last three years, feature mobile phones are nowhere and there are Android smartphones all around.

Motorola ROKR E8People these days usually buy an Android smartphones because they got better performance and mobile data connectivity off course.

But there is one fact related to most of the Android smartphones which is still keeping me away from them. I’m not joking. I still use Nokia 100 and Motorola ROKR E8 and I’m pretty much satisfied with both of them.

I still like my Motorola ROKR e8 a lot because its a very unique mobile phone with a list of unique features and off course a unique design.

Now let me share the reason why I don’t like Android smartphones due to which I’ve not switched to them.

They all look same, isn’t it? Every time I read about a new Android smartphone launch then I expect it to have a unique design but most of the time (more than 90%) they all look same.

Proof?

Where is the proof?

Look at all Xperia smartphones. Most of them have identical designs, right?

Look at all Galaxy smartphones. You need to do lots of homework to find a uniquely looking Galaxy.

Samsung Design Team

This fact goes with all brands and if it comes to budget Android smartphones they all look same too. It’s very hard to find a unique looking Android smartphone.

Another reason of their similarity is the operating system off course. Android is all same inside which increase my hate further.

Though I like HTC!

Just in case of HTC, devices look different. In fact each device looks different from each other and they all got a different looking version of Android OS. This is the major reason of HTC’s success.

HTC One V Android Smartphone

Due to this reason I always recommend my friends and family members to go for HTC smartphones if they are going for Android. In fact, I personally used HTC One V for more than a month because of its unique design.

But What About Others?

I don’t know why all other manufacturers are doing this. If they work a little bit on the designs of their smartphones then no doubt they will make more sells and profits.

Why people love iPhone 5?

iPhone 5 has got nothing much to talk about its operating system because it doesn’t allows users to do customization (which Android does allows) and its very simple to use (like of a normal mobile phone).

But still people buy it due to its unique design.

 iPhone 5

Isn’t it a great fact? I seriously think that all other manufacturers at least the brand ones should look at this particular section.

Even BlackBerry disappointed me when they launched their BlackBerry Z10 which looks very similar to iPhone 5.

A Video

I found a video on YouTube that was clearing a lot of things about Android smartphones. You need to watch it!

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLbGJjizXzI?feature=player_detailpage]

A Research

I went to Flipkart which is a leading online shopping portal in India and searched for Android smartphones. I removed all high end smartphones and left with smartphones which were costing less than 25k INR.

Guess what? I was left with all similar looking devices.

Now as an Android fan you will be saying that they do look different.

Yes, they do look different but not very different and that’s why I don’t like them.

Remember in past, when we used to go to buy a new mobile phone then we use to look first at the design. If it looks unique then half of the decision is done.

But what’s happening now? Why we only go and ask for Android?

This is where Android developers would be so proud that they have set a trend in mobile devices.

Now I got lots of point to conclude this topic of why I don’t like Android smartphones but I’ll not make the story boring by sharing all that stuff.

I’ll conclude this story by asking you few questions.

Does your Android smartphone look very unique or at least unique than others?

All Galaxy smartphones looks similar, isn’t it?

Why you don’t want to have a unique looking smartphone?

P.S.: To be frank there is nothing wrong in Android Smartphones, so if you are thinking of buying one then you can go for it without any second thought.

Cheers..!!

Dude is design the only things that is keeping you away to switch from your current phones. You are not a keen observer, think logically touch screen phone cannot be that fancy like the smartphones once use to be. And above all Android is the primary selling factor of these smartphones, design is secondary. Spend a month with Android, and change your perception!

Well it depends on personal views. I prefer looking at design first then look at other features. No doubt, Android is doing well but if manufacturers can make every device looking different then their profit will definitely go up. Apple is making huge profit from one single smartphone in front of flood of android smartphones.

I agree Pawan, it would be great to see more variety in the android phones’ design. I was half way through your article and I was thinking HTC and then you mentioned them as an exception 🙂 I like their phone with the speakers at the front, it looks good and also useful. Regarding apple iphone, yes they are different from other phones but their design is extremely samey within the apple range. Why can’t they experiment with some different designs to work with their operating system? Cheers, James

Thanks for the comment James. 🙂 Ya Apple should also try for different designs as they did with the iPhone 5. It was having a super luxury design. Remaining iPhones look alike but still they are less in number but when it comes to android smartphones the list is very long and its still increasing.
Apple is already working on new iOS design and that will definitely bring out a new iPhone design. Cheers!

    Buddy,
You seem confused to me! HTC is a smartphone brand whereas Android is an OS, how come you are comparing the two things? You can compare Samsung and HTC or Android and iOS but not HTC and Android! Android is not a smartphone. You article title should be “Why I don’t like Samsung smartphones”.
Other than that, a English tip, “A” in Android should be in capital because it is a noun. Same with all gadget names like HTC, Galaxy… I hope you get the drift.

Coming to the article, looks don’t matter to me personally, I can go for the same design but what matters is what is inside them. The processing power and the app market is what matters to me and considering there is no comparison to the iOS or Android market, I would still go for Android because Apple products are just too costly for me.

Thanks for that long comment buddy and I appreciate you for reading out the stuff!
Let me clear that I’m not against Android or any other brand. I just don’t like the design part of Android smartphones and that’s what I’ve written here. There is nothing wrong with Android but its the design which I look at first before making the payment.
You can’t afford Apple? So there is HTC for you. 🙂

    Pawan,
First of all thanks for correcting “Android”.
Next, you did not seem to read the first part of my comment. Android is not a smartphone that you can complain about its design! And by the way, most of the HTC smartphones are actually Android only…. a little research before writing the article is suggested 😉

Ya I did that as that was my fault, so I corrected that.
About the article – Check the title first. I’ve not written this stuff on “Why I don’t like Android” rather I’ve written on “Why I don’t like Android smartphone”.
HTC is best because their smartphone design are unique. 😛

The point was smartphones having Adnroid OS have kinda same design, Look at all the Smartphones having Android OS..

Now talking about HTC, they too have Android and that is clearly mentioned in the post..but they are experimenting with the design part too..that is what the post says..

      Cheers..!!
